Police investigating after shooting leads to crash in Roxbury

BOSTON – A late-night shooting on a residential street in Roxbury left one man dead and a neighborhood shaken after the victim’s vehicle crashed moments after the gunfire erupted. The Boston Police Department is now leading a homicide investigation into the incident that unfolded Thursday night.

The grim discovery was made around 10 p.m. on Ruthven Street. Police and emergency crews were initially dispatched to the area of 163 Ruthven Street following reports of a single-car crash with the driver trapped inside. Upon their arrival, first responders worked to extricate the man from the wreckage. It was only then that they discovered he was suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, an adult male whose identity has not yet been released pending family notification, was rushed by Boston EMS to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead, according to a statement from the Boston Police Department.

“Preliminary investigation suggests the incident may have occurred inside a vehicle that subsequently crashed,” a police statement confirmed, shedding light on the sequence of events. The area around the crash scene was cordoned off with yellow police tape for several hours as detectives from the Homicide Unit and officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) canvassed the area for evidence and potential witnesses.

As of Friday evening, no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting. The investigation is active and ongoing, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.

Details on what may have led to the shooting have not been released by authorities, and it remains unclear if the victim was targeted. The sudden violence has left residents in the area concerned.

The Boston Police Department is asking anyone with information relevant to the investigation to contact the Boston Police Homicide Unit at (617) 343-4470. For those who wish to provide information anonymously, they can do so by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS or by texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
