Chittenango Man Identified in Town of Fenner Death, Authorities Rule Out Foul Play

FENNER, N.Y. – A suspicious death investigation that began early this week has concluded with authorities identifying a Chittenango man and determining the cause of death to be self-inflicted. The body of Matthew Tysco, 45, was discovered on the shoulder of Stables Road on Monday morning, prompting a multi-agency response and a temporary closure of the rural road.

According to a statement from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the scene in the Town of Fenner at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025, after a report of a deceased individual. Upon arrival, they located Mr. Tysco and immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, which was initially deemed suspicious.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the New York State Police, the Chittenango Police Department, the Cazenovia Police Department, the Chittenango Fire Department, and Madison County EMS. Stables Road remained closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene.

In an update released on Tuesday, June 17, the Sheriff’s Office announced that the investigation had concluded and that Mr. Tysco’s death was a result of self-inflicted injuries. Officials have not released further details regarding the nature of the injuries, respecting the privacy of the family.
