Brooklyn, NY – A late-night dispute at a Sheepshead Bay laundromat turned deadly on Sunday, leaving a 54-year-old father dead and his 19-year-old son wounded. The tragic incident, which police say stemmed from an argument, has left the community shaken and searching for answers.
The violence erupted at approximately 10:40 p.m. inside the Laundry King located at 39 Neptune Avenue. According to the New York Police Department, the father and son became embroiled in a verbal altercation with another man. The disagreement quickly escalated, spilling out onto the sidewalk where the suspect allegedly brandished a knife.
Police say the father was stabbed in the torso, and his son sustained a slash wound to his forehead. Emergency services rushed both victims to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. Despite medical efforts, the father succumbed to his injuries. His name is being withheld pending family notification. The 19-year-old son is reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect, described as wearing a dark t-shirt and shorts, fled the scene on foot and remains at large. The NYPD’s 61st Precinct is leading the investigation and has been canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance footage.
The sudden violence has left local residents in disbelief. “This is a quiet neighborhood,” said one local who asked not to be named. “You hear about things happening in other parts of the city, but not here. It’s terrifying.”
Authorities have not yet released a motive for the fatal argument. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
