WOODHULL, N.Y. — A fiery two-vehicle crash on State Route 417 in the town of Woodhull on Wednesday morning claimed the life of an 84-year-old man and left a woman with non-life-threatening injuries, according to New York State Police.

The tragic incident occurred at approximately 11:34 a.m. on June 18, 2025. A preliminary investigation reveals that a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck, operated by the elderly man, was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of State Route 417 from a field to a driveway at 5977 State Route 417.

As the pickup crossed the roadway, it was struck by an eastbound 2019 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Kelly A. Bills, 46, of Woodhull. The force of the impact caused both vehicles to become fully engulfed in flames.

The 84-year-old driver of the Dodge Ram was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Bills was able to exit her vehicle and was transported by ambulance to Guthrie Corning Hospital for treatment of her injuries, which have been described as non-life-threatening.

A significant emergency response was dispatched to the scene, including personnel from the New York State Police, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, and fire departments from Woodhull, Jasper, Addison, and Tuscarora. AMR and Woodhull Ambulance services, along with the New York State Department of Transportation and the Steuben County Coroner, also responded.

A section of State Route 417 was closed for several hours as the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted its investigation. The investigation into the crash is ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.
