Child Killed, Multiple Injured in Horrific Single-Vehicle Crash on I-45 in Webster

WEBSTER, Texas – A devastating single-vehicle crash on the southbound lanes of the I-45 Gulf Freeway tragically claimed the life of a small child and left several others with injuries on Wednesday afternoon. The incident prompted a complete shutdown of the freeway for hours as emergency crews responded and investigators began their work.

The Webster Police Department confirmed that the accident occurred at approximately 3:54 p.m. just south of the West Bay Area Boulevard exit. According to preliminary reports, a Chevrolet sedan carrying multiple occupants lost control for reasons yet to be determined. The vehicle veered across several lanes of traffic before striking a concrete barrier.

Emergency responders, including the Webster Police, Fire Department, and EMS, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the wreckage and a number of injured individuals. Life Flight was also called to assist in the transportation of the critically injured.

Police officials have tragically confirmed that a small child died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash. Other occupants of the vehicle were transported to various local hospitals with a range of injuries. The exact number of people in the vehicle and the full extent of their conditions have not yet been released, as authorities are still working to identify all involved.

The southbound lanes of the I-45 freeway were completely closed at the West Bay Area Boulevard exit, with traffic being diverted off the freeway, causing significant delays for evening commuters. The Webster Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is leading the investigation into the cause of the tragic incident.
