Three suspects arrested after Metro police shooting in North Las Vegas

NORTH LAS VEGAS – Three men have been taken into custody following a dramatic confrontation Sunday night that saw suspects allegedly open fire on Metro police officers, prompting an officer to return fire and injure two of the men. No officers were harmed in the exchange.

The incident unfolded around 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2025, when officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were investigating a drive-by shooting that had occurred earlier in the 5100 block of Hickham Avenue, near North Buffalo Drive and West Craig Road.

According to police, officers on patrol identified two vehicles they believed were involved in the prior shooting and began to follow them. The situation escalated near West Lone Mountain Road and Scott Robinson Boulevard when occupants of the suspect vehicles reportedly fired upon the pursuing officers, striking two patrol cars.

In response to the gunfire, one LVMPD officer discharged their weapon, hitting two of the suspects. One of the injured men is reported to be in critical condition, while the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Following the shooting, all occupants of the two vehicles were detained. On Monday, June 23, 2025, police announced the arrest of three individuals in connection with the incident. The suspects have been identified as Lazavion Payne, 19, Calvin Richards, 24, and Daiveon Stone, 29. They were booked into the Clark County Detention Center on multiple charges, the specifics of which are pending release.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing. As of Tuesday morning, there had been no further update on the condition of the two hospitalized suspects.

Authorities are expected to release more details as the investigation progresses, including the specific charges faced by the three men in custody. The officer who fired their weapon will likely be placed on routine administrative leave pending a review of the incident, as is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
