Decatur, GA – A peaceful Saturday morning in Decatur was shattered by violence when a woman was fatally shot, a tragedy that also claimed the life of a young girl. Authorities have since apprehended a suspect in connection with the horrific incident, which preliminary investigations suggest was domestic in nature.
The victims have been identified as 29-year-old Tomika Pullins and 7-year-old Dior Scott. DeKalb County Police responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex on Columbia Drive, where they found both victims unresponsive. Despite immediate CPR efforts, both succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
According to police, the suspect, identified as 48-year-old William Lewis Almond, was reportedly trying to gain entry to the apartment. When he was denied access, witnesses stated he broke a window and fired multiple shots inside, striking both Pullins and Scott. Almond fled the scene but was later located and taken into custody. DeKalb County Police confirmed that Pullins was Almond’s estranged wife, and Dior Scott was his niece.
DeKalb County Public Information Officer Elise Wells stated that the shooting was “not a random act” and is being investigated as a domestic incident. The rapid apprehension of the suspect was lauded by DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, who extended her deepest condolences to the victims’ loved ones and the grieving community.
The community is left reeling from the senseless loss of life, particularly that of a child. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are committed to pursuing justice for Tomika Pullins and Dior Scott.
